You can hold the door for them
But they have to walk through [it]

 You can advise all day long
But sometimes you have to [let others] live it
To know that it is true

 You can lead a horse to water
But you cannot make it drink
 

You can give somebody a thousand books
But you cannot make them [read] them [or] think [about them]
 

Sometimes you have to get your Fingers burnt
